Why are my curls so dry no matter what I do?
Dry curls are one of the most common problems. Many people try conditioners, masks, leave-in treatments, or oils – and yet their curls still feel rough, brittle, or frizzy.
If your curls constantly look dry , it's almost always due to one of these reasons. The good news: all of them are easily fixable.
1. Too little moisture in the hair
Curly hair loses moisture faster than straight hair because natural oils from the scalp have difficulty reaching the ends. This problem is exacerbated in winter, with dry air from heating, or in sunlight.
Typical signs:
- dull, matte hair
- hard feeling
- Frizz
- missing definition
Solution:
- Increase moisture care
- richer masks
- Leave the conditioner on for longer
The Flora & Curl Rose Water Cream Conditioner is very suitable, as it provides intense moisture.
2. Porosity – the underestimated reason for dry curls
Porosity describes how well your hair can absorb and retain moisture. It determines which products will truly work for your curls.
Here's a simple, clear image to understand porosity:

Low porosity
- Hair absorbs moisture slowly.
- Products are often placed on top
- dries slowly
Needs: warmth, light products
Medium porosity
- optimal balance
- well defined
- easy-care
High porosity
- absorbs water extremely quickly
- But it dries immediately again
- rough hair surface
Needs: rich care, sealing oils, satin protection
porosity test
- Water glass test: Place hair in water
- Washing behavior: quickly wet = high porosity
- Touch test: smooth = low, rough = high
3. The treatment doesn't penetrate – there's a lack of warmth.
When hair is cold, the cuticle remains closed – the mask stays on the surface and doesn't nourish deeply.
Solution: Incorporate heat, e.g. with the Siztaz Deep Conditioning Cap . It enhances any skincare treatment with natural body heat – completely without electricity.
4. Friction removes moisture
Scarves, jacket collars, sweaters and cotton bed linen cause friction – and therefore moisture loss.
Solution: Satin!
5. Moisture is not sealed in
Without sealing, the moisture evaporates again – especially in cases of high porosity.
Solution: Apply a few drops of oil to the lengths of the hair.

6. The wrong washing routine
Shampooing too frequently or too vigorously removes moisture. Hot water further dries out the skin.
Better:
- gentle cleansing
- Use conditioner every time
- lukewarm water
- Scalp massages
Conclusion
Dry curls are a sign of insufficient moisture, the wrong products for the porosity, too little protection, or inadequate sealing.
With the right steps – and a few simple products – your curls will become soft, shiny, defined and healthy again.
